The Round Table on Marketing…a Report-Back

Posted on: 10-21-2009 Posted in: Archives of Past Events, Membership News, Professional Education

Well, it was an enjoyable conversation between me and Kimberly Baker, our Advisory Board member – not truly a ’round table’ at all! What was planned as a structured event turned into a dialog – where we touched on a myriad of topics related to marketing.

One thing that came from the conversation was how small firms can build a new Web presence quickly and easily…and inexpensively: WORDPRESS! A blog-based site is easy to create, and manage – and WordPress can do anything for you, including obituaries. You can read a related thread here.

There are literally thousands of Worpress themes you can buy – or even download for free. Check out the WordPress site, and the many themes they have available at: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/.

As I told Kimberly on the call – you can spend thousands of dollars on a site for your firm – or not. Our AWFD site is a WordPress-based one; and it works well for us because I can update any page on the site, and use this blog for relationship-building. And, as you all know, in the funeral business, relationships are everything!

While we briefly touched upon “enlightenment” or educational marketing, it was less a part of our conversation than I had intended. Naturally, with just us, it seemed silly to dig too deep into the topic – so we’ll save it for another day.

I’m truly looking forward to finding that perfect day/time when our members can join in our events. Remember, there’s a related survey – and I’m always available by email: kim@wfdconnect.com.

One of the Internet entrepreneurs I truly enjoy, Andrew Lock, always says…’everything is marketing, and marketing is everything.’

Wise words!

Thanks, Kimberly, for being there with me tonight! You’re delightful.
