The AWFD Launch Event – a Success

Posted on: 08-20-2009 Posted in: Uncategorized

And, of course, ‘success’ is a relative term, isn’t it? We had a very small turnout – a select group of women, I like to think; but nonetheless, I consider the 56 minutes to be time well-spent.  Our guest was Karen Cappello, PCC, CLC, who shared her perspectives on the concept of ‘expansion’ – how reaching for those things in life that excite and delight you brings greater enjoyment to life. This may seem to be a no-brainer – but how many times do we find ourselves ‘locked’ into a pattern of daily life than is not energizing, but rather emotionally, spiritually, and physically draining?

Expansion in our personal – and professional –lives means a willingness to step outside our comfort zones; to take a risk. But, the rewards can be enormous: trying new things in your business can bring in new client families, increase customer satisfaction, and build client retention. And trying new things in your private life – new hobbies, new habits – can bring a great deal of joy, which ripples out into the wider world.

The Association of Women Funeral Directors came into being to foster expansion, for our members, and for the industry. The stated goal is to ‘strengthen the presence of women in funeral service,’ and we intend to do that by supporting the membership through professional and personal development programs; nurturing relationships between women funeral professionals and mortuary college students, and shifting perceptions about women within the industry. After all, more women are coming into funeral service than ever before – it’s time to embrace their presence wholeheartedly.

Sign-up Now for AWFDConnections

The first issue of our monthly e-newsletter, AWFDConnections, will be published the first week of September. The first 55 women who send an email to awfdconnections@aweber.com, and then successfully confirm their subscription, will receive my gift of a 3-month membership in the association, as part of my birthday celebration.

Turning 55 has been a wonderful gift to me; every day I realize the rewards of an expanded world view afforded by my age. My goal is to spread the joys of expansion…and I invite anyone interested in getting in on the ground floor of this new organization for women to  send that subscription request today! You’ll be rewarded with a complimentary 3-month membership – and who can really put a value on that? We’re talking expansion, here; professional and personal. Swe-e-e-et!
