  • Seeking Inner Ease

    June 17, 2010

Years ago, when I used to take my sons to “our” Buddhist retreat, Vajrapani, we’d drive by the Institute of HeartMath. I didn’t know what they did until just a few months ago…here’s what they say about their mission on the web: HeartMath LLC is dedicated to improving health, performance and well-being at home and in the workplace. We provide products and services that enable people to transform stress, better regulate emotional responses and harness the power of heart/brain communication. Through our training programs, coaching, publications, licensing programs and innovative technology we provide practical, scientifically validated methods that enable people to live more rewarding, healthy and productive lives personally and professionally. We have achieved global recognition for our groundbreaking products and services that have been proven to increase productivity while reducing the stress associated with living and working in this era of high-speed change. Kickin’ Down the Doors of Opportunity

    June 14, 2010

According to Brian Tracy, anyone who does a great job consistently, over and over, kicks open the doors of opportunity in all directions. “Such a person will be hired, paid well, promoted, advanced and given additional responsibilities because there are so few of them.” Experts say that to excel you need to become one of the best time managers in your field. And, that all-around life expert, Benjamin Franklin concurs, having written (all those years ago), “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.” So, how do you not squander time?Well, in talking to “those in the know” as part of my research for Getting Ahead and Staying Ahead: Success Strategies for Women in Funeral Service, I’ve discovered the top 7 mistakes people make… #1 Working from your to do list! This might surprise you, but it’s actually a big time management mistake many people make. Instead of working from your complete to-do list, it’s crucial to set a top priority list with a maximum of six to eight items on the list. Set this priority list at the end of each day for the next day. You should work from this priority list, working on item one first until finished then move to item number two. Keep your to do list separate and complete items on this list when you have finished items on your priority list. Also, use your to do list as a way to remember what you MIGHT want to put on your priority list. #2 Checking emails constantly throughout the day. The biggest problem with this is that it interrupts what you are working on. Every time you are interrupted, you lose momentum and focus. Instead, check your emails in 20-30 minute blocks one

    The AWFD Happiness Project

    June 6, 2010

As I pull the newsletter together, I wanted to make sure I had a post describing my intention to start an AWFD Happiness Project this month. Based on the work of Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, this on-going mastermind group (or should I simply say “support group”?) will focus on cultivating a “happiness mindset” which will be unique to ourselves. If you’ve not got the time to read the book, then head over to the related websites (click on the images to be taken there.)
